Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457)

Features

This visa lets a skilled worker travel to Australia to work in their nominated occupation for their approved sponsor for up to four years.

Requirements

You might be able to get this visa if:

you have been sponsored by an approved business
you have the required skills to fill a position nominated by an approved business.

Features

This visa is for points-tested skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer or family member or nominated by a state or territory government.
It allows you to live and work in Australia as a permanent resident.

Requirements

You might be eligible to apply for this visa if invited. When we sent your letter of invitation, you must also have:

nominated an occupation that is on the relevant skilled occupation list
obtained a suitable skills assessment for that occupation
not yet turned 50 years of age
achieved the score specified in your letter of invitation based on the factors in the points test
at least competent English.

Features

This visa allows you to:

continue to own and manage a business in Australia (the Business Innovation stream)
continue business and investment activity in Australia (the Investor stream and the Significant Investor stream).

Requirements

You might be able to get this visa if you are nominated by a state or territory; and

hold a provisional Business Innovation and Investment visa (subclass 188) and have met the requirements of that visa in the stream in which you first applied

hold a Special Category visa (subclass 444) or a Business (Long stay) visa (subclass 457IE) and have met the requirements of the business innovation stream.

work in a skilled position under a staff exchange arrangement (the Exchange stream)
participate in high-level sports competitions (the Sport stream)
do full-time religious work (the Religious Worker stream)

You might be able to get this visa if you:

are sponsored by an approved sponsor
are nominated to undertake an approved activity
have the skills and experience relevant to the nominated activity.

Features

This visa allows you to establish a new or develop an existing business in Australia. It has two streams:

Significant Business History stream: for high-calibre business owners or part-owners who want to do business in Australia
Venture Capital Entrepreneur stream: for people who have sourced venture capital funding from a member of the Australian Venture Capital Association Limited (AVCAL).

Requirements

You might be able to get this visa if you are nominated by a state or territory government agency and are invited to apply by the minister.
You must also either:

have net business and personal assets of at least AUD1.5 million and an annual business turnover of at least AUD3 million if you intend to apply for the visa in the Significant Business History stream, or
have obtained at least AUD1 million in venture capital funding to start the commercialisation and development of a high-value business idea in Australia if you intend to apply for the visa in the Venture Capital Entrepreneur stream.

This visa is for people who want to travel to Australia for up to three months to either:

do short-term, highly specialised, non-ongoing work
participate in non-ongoing cultural or social activities at the invitation of an Australian organisation
in limited circumstances, participate in an activity or work relating to Australia’s interests.

have specialised skills, knowledge or experience that can assist Australian business
have been invited to participate in an event by an organisation in Australia
are required in Australia for exceptional circumstances of national importance, such as to assist following a natural disaster.
